The Diocese of Sioux City Superintendent Dan Ryan informed Emmetsburg Catholic
Principal Jean Hyslop, that she is the recipient of the Good Shepherd Award for 2015. Hyslop will be presented with the award at the Bishop's Dinner for Catholic Schools on Sunday, October 11 at the Sioux City Convention Center in Sioux City, Iowa and receive
$1000.00 cash award. Hyslop was taken completely by surprise.
"I am very honored to receive this award," Hyslop said.
There are only a few rules for this award. The individual must be a school employee who is admired, respect and held in high regard by fellow peers, students and parents, who routinely goes above and beyond the call of duty, enthusiastically promothing the mission of the school. Secondly, the person must be a school employee who demonstrates a true
passion for the job and is ready and willing to help at a moments notice. Finally, this person must be an employee in a Catholic School of the Diocese of Sioux City for at least
five consecutive years at the time of nomination and remain employed at the time of the Bishop's Dinner when the award is given.
Hyslop has been with the Catholic School system of the Diocese of Sioux City for 21 years. She began her career as a teacher at St. Peter and Paul Catholic School in West Bend in 1990s. She received a Masters Degree in Administration and in 1999 became the principal for both the Catholic School in West Bend and the Catholic School in Emmetsburg until the West Bend Catholic School was closed in 2007.
